As for the exploration activities in 2013, OAPEC member countries have made
104 new discoveries, of which 66 were oil and 38 were gas discoveries. Other Arab
countries have made two oil discoveries and no gas discoveries.
In part three, the report presents the oil and natural gas processing. In 2013, the
installed capacities of the existing oil refineries in the Arab countries have reached
about 8037.4 thousand b/d, a decline of 7000 b/d compared to 2012 level. Arab
petroleum products amounted to about 6682.4 thousand b/d, representing an increase
of about 2.1% compared to 2012.
The report also covers the consumption of oil and other sources of energy in
the member countries and other Arab countries, including petroleum products
consumption by product, in addition to; natural gas, coal, and hydroelectricity.
Total Arab energy consumption in 2013 reached about 13.7 million boed, of which
6.55 million boed were crude oil and petroleum products, and 6.88 million boed
of natural gas.
Moreover, the report reviews oil and natural gas trade in OAPEC member
countries and other Arab countries, including crude oil, oil products and natural gas
exports and imports data. The report covers average spot prices of Arab and global
crudes, monthly and annual spot prices of OPEC basket and energy products prices
in local currencies and in US dollar for the period 2011 to 2013.
Moreover, the report touched upon oil and natural gas transportation. It also
reviews the number and tonnage of oil tankers, and the existing pipeline networks
in member countries. Data on electricity relating to installed capacity, maximum
electrical load, generated and consumed electrical power have been tackled too.
The General Secretariat, providing the specialists and researchers in the energy
field, aspires that the report will serve its purpose. It extends profound thanks and
